Duration: This is a 2-year qualification that depends on the specific circumstances of the student. With this qualification, the learner can become a lay counsellor and register on the appropriate level with the Association of Christian Religious Practitioners (ACRP) in South Africa.

The program contains :

  1. 30 credits of Knowledge modules (300 hours theoretical),
  2. 48 credits practical (480 hours practical) and
  3. 65 credits workplace (650 hours workplace experience). 

The theoretical modules are presented in a weekly class in person or by Zoom. A Facilitator is assigned to you who will guide you through the theoretical, practical and workplace. 

There are three theoretical modules, four practical and four workplace modules that must be completed before final exams.

NQF5 Social Counselling Worker qualification

“Social Counsellor Worker” is our NQF5 qualification. This qualification enables the efficient application of counselling methods and strategies within a specific community or circumstance to promote the following objectives. The qualification enables you to do social / Christian counselling and register with The Council for Pastoral and Spiritual Counselors (CPSC) (www.cpsc.org.za), a professional body for counsellors in South Africa. 

Outcome of the NQF 5

The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as a Christian Lay Counsellor- social counselling worker.

Affordability

Excel Academy believes that training must be accessible and affordable to every person that believes he or she is called to ministry. Therefore, our programs are very affordable with different payment options.

The cost of the qualification is R 22500, which must be paid over two years and includes material and all class-related activities, excluding the EISA (External Integrated Summative Exam). 

During the course, internal assessments are done through assignments submitted and one integrated final examination. The cost can be budgeted between R500- R1000 per student amounts depending on the AQP (external examiner).

Well qualified lecturers are available that will be able to teach the material and have sufficient practical experience to transfer knowledge.

We have established a well-managed administrative system that forms the backbone of the training center. Our excellent learner management system assists us in our critical operations with online capabilities.
The student support system is in development and improved regularly so that it available five days per week.
We are developing methods of approaching subjects that will help students get their minds around the theoretical modules.
Our goal is to set up enough partnerships with community organizations and Churches where students can employ their acquired knowledge and practical experience in the workplace.

Study Material

There are 3 components to the course

  1. Knowledge component with Knowledge modules, class discussions and assignments
  2. Practical Component with Practical sessions in class, case studies etc.
  3. Workplace component with Counseling programmes- practical work with counselees.

Study Guide/ Module manual

For each Module, the student is given a study manual. This manual instructs the student on completing each assignment, as well as the exam demarcation for the specific subject.

The File with included modules included in the course fee, and they are regarded as the only reading material required (aside from the Bible and the Study Guide) to complete the assignments and study for the invigilated exam. You can download or acquire additional textbooks mentioned by the facilitator. This is optional

The goal of formative assessment is to monitor student learning and provide constructive criticism that students can use to improve their education and learning.

What is a summative assessment?

Summative assessment is the final evaluation of a student’s knowledge through an invigilated exam.
